2009 White House Correspondents’ Dinner

Almost 3000 journalists, politicians and celebrities gathered at the Washington Hilton for the White House Correspondents’ Association Annual Dinner. The current White House Correspondents’ Association president Jennifer Loven served as master of ceremonies. Michelle Obama presented youth scholarships and Brian Williams presented the White House Correspondents’ Association Awards to journalists. President Obama gave humorous after-dinner remarks in his first speech to the organization. He was followed by comedienne Wanda Sykes who made humorous observations about President Obama and the political climate in Washington.

Activist investor William Ackman of Pershing Square Capital Management says that despite the 76 percent drop in shares of Borders Group bookstore company in the last three years, he believes the stand-alone bookstore chain could transition into a mini-shopping mall where the bookstore houses other shops to diversify its revenue stream and remain relevant to consumers.

2008 White House Correspondents’ Dinner

At the annual dinner, the White House Correspondents’ Association presented awards to journalists. President Bush made humorous after-dinner remarks in his last speech to the organization. He also made a point of leading the band in playing “Stars and Stripes Forever.” He was followed by comedian Craig Ferguson who made humorous observations about life in the U.S. as a new citizen.

Con Edison Compensation for 2006 Queens Blackout

Bloomberg LP May Not Need to Panic

At a time when Bloomberg LP is concerned that its business is suffering because many of its major customers are laying off people amid the credit crisis, the company received some good news on April 17 when Merrill Lynch & Co., which owns 20% of Bloomberg LP, announced that it does not plan to raise additional capital to support its business, appearing less likely that the firm will sell its stake in the company.
